Can You See It?

May 15, 2021

“Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old; I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”   Isaiah 43:18-19 (NRSV)

Do you remember life before 2020, pre-COVID-19, and social distancing?  Or perhaps you’re considering how life was once “normal”?  One thing I learned throughout the pandemic is that God is doing a new thing, and our former way of living is considered a thing of the old. God needed to do a new thing to restore and renew us to a place where we began to focus on things that matter most such as God, family, love, spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health. God works in mysterious ways, and I believe the pandemic is one of His creative mysteries He allowed to transpire for us to see the new thing He is doing. God is doing a new thing; do you not perceive it?

When the world put into practice social distancing, God said, “I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the deserts” for my people to stay connected with family and friends through technology.  Do you not perceive it?  When the world said churches are closed, God instead restored the true meaning of church, a body of believers and not the building. God did a new thing by showing the world that a physical building is not needed to fellowship and share the word of God. Do you not perceive it?  When the world shut down stores, gyms, restaurants, movie theaters, office buildings, etc., God said a new way of living is here now it springs forth. Do you not perceive it? Sometimes it takes something as devastating as a pandemic for something new to get through to us and to happen for us. Do you not perceive the new thing God is doing in your life?

Prayer:  Heavenly Father open our eyes so that we can perceive the new thing that you are doing. For your word says, what lies ahead is far better than what’s been. Help us to let go of remembering what was so that we can focus on the new thing that lies ahead in Jesus’ name Amen.
